Just for fun: 75 Words Every Sci-Fi Fan Should KnowI know surprisingly few of these, and of those they're almost entirely applicable to modern English or other genres. I know; I am so ashamed! The link within the link goes to: Science Fiction CitationsPretty interesting, I think. Actually I found this searching for the origin of "frell" but it's not in there -- I guess even fictional expletives don't make it into fictional dictionaries. On an unrelated note, I find it humorous that the word "expletive" also means a word that is used to serve a function (in grammar or poetry) but basically has no meaning. Isn't that what a swear word is?

I'm actually a bit miffed that I didn't know all the words... grok (I'm even more embarrassed because it was coined by Heinlein) Light Cone (heard of it but haven't really explored it) Lofstrom loop Quine waldo Edit: Is it not what a swear word is? Pointless? Honestly though, I prefer the Mandalorian (pre George-castration of the culture) curses. You can tell a LOT about a culture by its curses. Human Culture (RL) tends to focus on the racial or ancestry. eg nigger polak Whereas Mandalorians focus on the actual worth of the person - focusing on worth, honor, intelligence, useful (or uselessness). eg Aruetii (foreigner, outsider or traitor) [benign to hostile] Hut'uun (coward) Note: Mandalorian language doesn't have a word for "Hero". It's expected.

Is it not what a swear word is? Pointless? This was my thought: swear words usually serve to make a point (to offend, express unexpressable anger/annoyance, etc) but the words themselves technically mean nothing. Note: Mandalorian language doesn't have a word for "Hero". It's expected. Interesting!
